SharePoint News

SharePoint News brings your organisation’s stories to life with rich formatting, images, and dynamic content. It’s more than plain text—it’s an engaging way to keep everyone informed. Here’s what you need to know:

What is SharePoint News?

SharePoint News allows you to create eye-catching posts on your team site. These posts can include announcements, people news, status updates, and more. You can use graphics and rich formatting to make your news visually appealing. It’s accessible from both the web experience and the SharePoint mobile app.

In SharePoint Online, creating a news post is straightforward. You can start from the SharePoint Home or directly on a team site or communication site. The process involves adding a title, content, and imagery. Once published, these posts appear in a personalised feed on the SharePoint start page and can also be viewed on mobile devices through the SharePoint app. Your feed is based on:

  • People you work with.
  • Sites you follow.
  • Sites you frequently visit.

When relevant news is posted by someone in your close sphere of work or on an active site, you receive notifications.

Page authors can set up the News web part to show news recommended for the current user.

SharePoint News is a core tool for internal communications teams. For example:

Announcements: Share company-wide updates, policy changes, or event details.

Team Updates: Keep teams informed about project progress, milestones, or team achievements.

Employee Spotlights: Highlight outstanding employees or recognise their contributions.

Product Launches: Introduce new products or features to the organisation.

The flexibility of SharePoint News allows it to cater to different levels of communication needs, from team-specific updates to company-wide announcements.

Now, SharePoint News is compatible with Viva Connections. Viva Connections integrates SharePoint News directly into Microsoft Teams.

SharePoint News is an essential tool for modern internal communications, offering a blend of simplicity, flexibility, and integration that empowers organisations to keep their workforce informed, engaged, and aligned with company goals. Whether it’s through a web browser, mobile app, or integrated platforms like Viva Connections, SharePoint News delivers relevant content to the right audience at the right time.
