Silicon Reef & Bauer Media Group shortlisted for IoIC Award

Silicon Reef and Bauer Media Group have been shortlisted for an IoIC Award 2026 in the Game Changer category for myNews: Making Internal News Personal – a project focused on making internal news more relevant, personal and useful for employees across a global organisation. The category recognises organisations that have introduced a new way of communicating and changed how they engage with their people.

We’re incredibly proud to see this work recognised. It represents a long-standing partnership with Bauer Media Group built around a shared belief that technology should make work more simple, more connected and more human.

A shared ambition

Over the last few years, we’ve worked closely with Bauer Media as they continue to evolve the employee experience across their organisation.

As one of Europe’s largest media businesses, Bauer brings together around 12,000 colleagues across multiple countries, brands and functions. Creating a digital workplace that feels consistent at that scale, while still remaining meaningful to individual employees, is no small challenge.

Throughout our partnership, we’ve been fortunate to work with teams across Bauer Media who are willing to challenge assumptions, ask difficult questions and think differently about how technology can support communication and connection.

The shortlisted project grew from one of those conversations.

Tackling a challenge many organisations recognise

If you’ve ever worked in internal communications, you’ve probably experienced the same tension.

People need access to information. But as organisations grow, information becomes harder to navigate. News arrives through emails, Teams messages, intranet updates and countless other channels. Important messages compete for attention alongside everything else.

Bauer Media wanted to find a better way.

Rather than simply creating another channel, the team set out to rethink how internal news could work within their existing intranet, myBauer. How could we help employees find what matters most to them, while ensuring important organisational messages still reach the right audiences?

The answer was found in myNews – a personalised news experience that brings together news from across Bauer Media into a single experience shaped by an employee’s role, location, business area and interests. At the same time, communications teams retain the oversight and control needed to ensure critical updates cut through when they need to.

More than a technology project

What makes this recognition particularly meaningful is that it isn’t really about a feature, a product or a piece of technology. It’s recognition of a way of working.

From the beginning, Bauer Media’s Corporate Channels, Internal Communications and IT teams approached the challenge through the lens of employee experience. The conversation was never about building new functionality for the sake of it. The focus was always on helping people spend less time searching for information and more time engaging with content that matters to them.

As Amelie Roland-Gosselin, Head of Group Channels and Content at Bauer Media Group, explains:

“When creating myBauer, we imagined a world where our people could log on each day and see exactly what they need. A single, company-wide hub that cuts through the noise, bringing together the right tools, news and quick links, curated to their own role, interests and preferences. One platform, one homepage, but an experience that’s uniquely theirs, seamlessly integrated with Office 365 to create a truly connected digital workplace.”

That vision has guided our partnership from the beginning.

Proud to be part of the journey

Whilst awards naturally focus on a single piece of work, the reality is that successful digital workplace transformation rarely happens through a single project.

It happens through strong relationships, shared goals and a willingness to keep improving over time.

That’s why being shortlisted feels significant. It recognises the myNews initiative, but it also reflects the collaboration, trust and ambition that have shaped our wider partnership with Bauer Media over the years.

We’re delighted to see that work recognised by the Institute of Internal Communication and even more pleased for the Bauer Media team, whose vision, leadership and commitment made the project possible.

We look forward to celebrating with them at the IoIC Awards later this year.
