Microsoft Viva consolidates many functions that organisations typically use third-party tools for, allowing you to keep everything within the Microsoft ecosystem.
Viva Connections is a customisable app within Microsoft Teams that acts as a gateway to your company’s internal resources, news, and tools. It provides a personalised landing page where employees can access important updates, complete tasks, and stay connected with their colleagues. By integrating with existing Microsoft 365 services like SharePoint and Teams, Viva Connections helps create a cohesive and engaging digital workplace experience.
Viva Connections makes your intranet content available in Teams, and is a great way to engage frontline and deskless workers.
Viva Engage is an enterprise social networking tool – your company’s social hub, where you can connect with colleagues, share ideas, and join communities. It’s perfect for sparking conversations and getting to know people across the organisation. Viva Engage also facilitates leadership engagement with features like Leadership Corner, where employees can interact directly with leaders through posts, announcements, and Ask-Me-Anything (AMA) events. Does Viva Connections replace my intranet?
Viva Connections doesn’t replace your intranet but enhances it by integrating it into Microsoft Teams. It’s like a bridge that brings your existing SharePoint intranet into Teams, providing a more accessible and engaging experience for employees. While it offers a personalised landing page for news, resources, and tools, it doesn’t have all the features of a full-fledged intranet. Instead, it complements your current setup, making it easier for employees to stay connected and informed without leaving Teams.
How does Microsoft Viva work with SharePoint?
Microsoft Viva works seamlessly with SharePoint by leveraging its robust content management capabilities. Viva Connections, for example, uses your SharePoint home site to create a personalised dashboard within Teams, where employees can access news, resources, and conversations. Some features within Microsoft Viva are included in most business Microsoft 365 licenses. Viva Connections is included as standard, and the basic conversation and community features in Viva Engage are also available. This means you can get started and try it out at no extra charge.
Additionally, Microsoft sometimes offers funded pilots for other Viva apps. Get in touch to see if your organisation is eligible.
Do I have to use all the Viva apps?
No, you don’t have to use all the Viva apps. Microsoft Viva is designed to be flexible, allowing you to choose the apps that best meet your organisation’s needs. You can start with one or two apps, like Viva Connections for employee engagement and Viva Insights for productivity, and then expand as needed. This modular approach means you can tailor the experience to your specific goals and budget.
If you’re unsure which apps to start with, consider your organisation’s priorities. For example, if learning and development are key, Viva Learning might be a great starting point. Remember, you can always add more apps later as your needs evolve. This flexibility ensures you get the most value from Viva without feeling overwhelmed.
What are the licensing options and costs for Microsoft Viva?
Microsoft Viva offers several plans:
- Viva Employee Communications and Communities: $2.00 (£1.64) per user/month (annual commitment)
- Viva Workplace Analytics and Employee Feedback: $6.00 (£4.90) per user/month (annual commitment)
- Viva Suite: $12.00 (£9.60) per user/month (annual commitment)
To add Viva to your existing Microsoft 365 plan, you can contact your Microsoft representative. If you are not an existing customer, you can see Microsoft 365 pricing and choose the plan that best fits your needs.
Prerequisites for using Microsoft Viva include a license for one of the following: Microsoft 365 F1, F3, E3, A3, E5, or A5; Office 365 F3, E1, A1, E3, A3, E5, or A5; Microsoft 365 Business Basic, Business Standard, or Business Premium; SharePoint K, Plan 1, or Plan 2. Some Viva features also require a license for Microsoft Teams.
