Argent Energy is a European waste-based biodiesel producer with a vision to help decarbonise transport worldwide. Argent Energy believes in using waste materials only and continuously searches for new waste to be turned into higher-value products.

Silicon Reef are really friendly yet professional to deal with, very open and honest, extremely structured and quick, bringing lots of experience to delivering Argent Energy’s very first intranet that revolutionised the way we communicate and collaborate globally.
Aim
Argent Energy had a document management system, but with the company engagement being extremely low, they needed a hero intranet to meet their needs.
The document management system (DMS) needed to support numerous departments across the business, contain workflows for document approvals and – ultimately – be futureproof as Argent Energy and the intranet continue to grow.
That’s where we come in. Argent Energy enlisted our help to develop an intranet and DMS that was functional, engaging and prepared Argent Energy for the future.
Approach
Working collaboratively with Argent Energy, we approached the project with a three-phase approach which included:
Discover and Design
The first phase of the project focused on Discover and Design. With a series of requirements workshops, we refined and validated the key areas of improvement in the existing intranet, looking at:
- navigation and structure,
- the home page,
- news and departmental site designs,
- workflow designs
With the insights gained from the workshops, we put forward recommendations and custom designs to best suit Argent Energy’s needs.
Develop
During phase two of the project, we put all our learnings into place to bring Argent Energy’s refreshed intranet to life. As well as complete site configuration, design updates and PowerApps configuration, we also introduced Beacon.
Beacon, a Silicon Reef product, gave Argent Energy enhanced design capabilities within SharePoint to help make the intranet an engaging, brand-aligned space. As part of the Beacon deployment, we also ran workshops and training with the communications team. This ensured Argent were able to achieve their look and feel within their intranet, and feel comfortable and confident using Beacon within their SharePoint environment.
I would highly recommend Silicon Reef to those out there looking to roll out or further develop SharePoint Intranet and document management systems. It was a pleasure working with their teams.Â
Results
The intranet received excellent feedback from both Argent Energy leadership and employees.
In addition to increased SharePoint site visits, the new intranet led to:

- Reduced verbal requests for files and resources
- Central collaborations for huge projects such as expansions
- Easy onboarding process
- Fragmented comms were centralised across the 2 countries they operate in
- Policies were aligned and stored in the relevant DMS libraries
- Bolt-on of low code automation platform
- Following this successful launch, Argent Energy are planning additional departmental sites across the business.
