Microsoft announced it is in the process of phasing out Office 365 Video which means if you’re not already using Stream, now is the time to get yourself set up. Don’t panic! You have time to transfer all current videos from Office 365 Video into Stream. Microsoft has kindly broken down the steps you need to take in order to complete the process in an efficient and timely manner.

Now, let’s get you up to speed – what exactly is Stream and why does it pertain to you and your business?

Stream in its most simple explanation is a video platform in which you can upload and share videos. Unfortunately, you can only upload pre-existing videos and you aren’t able to record videos directly through Stream currently. However, Microsoft is in development for the ability to record and edit videos this month (September). They will be rolling out the capability to upload videos via the mobile app come Q3 2019.

There are two main reasons you should consider Stream.

It integrates well with a few different Microsoft online programmes such as Teams and Yammer.

Think of all the training videos and recorded calls saved up in the cloud never to be seen again. Making these videos easily accessible and shareable makes it more enticing to want to watch. It enables your workforce to have a designated location where all videos are to be found. Which leads me to the second point…

It provides a platform to increase employee engagement.

Video is a part of our daily lives as we record family moments or watch videos across social media and news. A recent study found that 51% of YouTubers watch a video to learn something they’ve never done before. By taking this knowledge of how impactful video-learning is and applying it to how a company can engage its’ employees is very powerful.

Unlimited Videos, One Location

Make life simple for your workforce with one location for all videos to be uploaded to. From important training videos to team meetings, everything is uploaded to one platform for all members in the organisation to view.

Search for Specifics

Whether you need to recall a specific sentence or want to watch a specific person speak in a video, everything is searchable using the search box on the right-hand side of the video. With speech-to-text generation, everyone has ease of referring to previous scenes. Face detection features also allow you to search for an individual within the video.

Cross-Platform Usage

Stream allows you to upload videos and share across Teams and Yammer making it even more efficient.

Upload Only

At the moment, you are unable to record videos through Stream. It is only a platform to share content.  Hopefully, Microsoft will be timely with the upcoming rollouts for video creation this month, if not by the end of the year.

Internal Only

Depending on how you use Stream, you’ll view this as a pro or a con. Videos are only able to be shared internally. This means any video you wish to download and share, cannot be done with your external network or with anyone who does not have access to your Teams, Yammer or Streams group.
