The Role

The role of the Delivery Manager is primarily to be a “servant leader”, motivator, facilitator and team coach.

Servant leadership is a project management style in which you lead by putting the needs of your team first. It’s about sharing power with your team, identifying, prioritising and meeting needs of others and helping people develop and perform as highly as possible.

Servant leaders believe that when their team members feel personally and professionally fulfilled, they produce higher quality work more efficiently and productively. Employee satisfaction and collaboration are important concepts in servant leadership.

The Delivery Manager is concerned with the health and happiness of team members and how they work together. They will encourage and motivate the team and protect them from external distractions and politics, so they are able to focus on what they are best at. They are skilled at building trust, managing team dynamics and motivating people.

You will:

  • Lead the collaborative, dynamic planning process to ensure that plans are achievable, and milestones are realistic, established and communicated.
  • Drive the delivery process, making best use of tools and techniques that work, maintain focus and deliver real value to the customer.
  • Create the right environment for the team to be effective and succeed.
  • Help the team to self-organise, creating a culture of learning, collaboration and transparency.
  • Be concerned with the health and happiness of the team members and how they work together.
  • Encourage and motivate the team and protect them from distractions.
  • Remove obstacles and blockers that might get in the way of delivery.
  • Ensure teams are focused on the highest priorities.
  • Facilitate continuous improvement by challenging existing processes if they are slowing the team down or not adding the most value for everyone.
  • Track, measure and communicate progress internally and to customers and stakeholders.
  • Optimise work against available resources and communicate with the PMO to ensure we have the right people working on the right tasks.

The Delivery Manager will be capable of working both at a high level and “in the weeds” by forming strong, trusting relationships with senior stakeholders to shape the aims, objectives and structure of a project but with the ability to dive into specific issues that need focus and resolution as needs arise.

With our strategic clients, the Delivery Manager may be asked to develop closer, longer term relationships leading to a hybrid role having both project and account level objectives. Identifying opportunities for account growth and working with clients to soft-sell and deliver additional value is the ultimate aim.

Essential Skills & Experience

  • 3+ years of Project/Delivery Manager experience in a Microsoft Partner Agency OR Prince 2 foundation or higher (or equivalent) industry certification in project management.
  • Delivering agile, ‘wagile’ and waterfall projects depending on what the project calls for.
  • Managing the delivery of projects, resolving blockers, communicating progress and managing resources (internal and external) to meet project goals.
  • Creating high level or detailed project plans to deliver against business requirements depending on the size and shape of the project.
  • Working with their teams to translate requirements into actionable user stories, tasks and sprint plans.
  • Facilitating project ceremonies (e.g. stand ups, sprint planning, retrospectives)
  • Full project lifecycle management from initiation to project closure and post implementation review
  • Strong relationship management of senior stakeholders.

Ideal Skills & Experience

It would be an advantage to have a working knowledge of one or more of the following areas:

  • Business Analysis / Requirements capture / User Research (UCD)
  • Account Management
  • Product Management
