Many of us become accustomed to working a specific way when we use the same tools on a regular basis. This is great as it becomes second nature, however sometimes it could end up slowing you down and you don’t even know it. We miss out on several updates and new apps that could improve the way we work by simply adding in new plug-ins or upgrading to the new software without interrupting our workflow.

Here are 4 ways to improve your accessibility in Microsoft O365:

Accessibility Checker

Included in many Microsoft Office 365 apps, such as Word, Outlook, PowerPoint as well as PowerApps and Sway, the Accessibility Checker helps you to make sure your content or app is easy for people of all abilities to read and edit or use

Accessible Templates

Search the term ‘accessible templates’ when creating a new Word, PowerPoint or Excel document and choose one of the included accessible templates to make sure that your slide design, colours, contrast, and fonts are accessible for all audiences. These templates are also designed so that screen readers can more easily read the content.

Subtitles in PowerPoint

Presentation Translator is an add-in for PowerPoint that subtitles your presentations live.  As you speak, Presentation Translator displays subtitles directly on your PowerPoint presentation, useful for audiences who are deaf or hard of hearing. It supports over 60 languages.

Videotranscription

Microsoft Stream is a video service for people in your organisation to upload, view, and share videos securely. It lets you upload to upload a closed-caption file and also includes an automated transcription service which will automatically generate one for you, making your video more accessible.  At time of writing, auto-generated caption files can be created for English- and Spanish-language videos in MP4 and WMV formats.

There are also plans for automated transcription services to be natively available for video and audio files in OneDrive and SharePoint using the same AI technology, estimated on the road map to be available in Q1 2020.
